Artistic Director

59E59 Theaters is seeking a new Artistic Director to continue our mission of providing a space and support for emerging and established not-for-profit theater companies to reach new audiences and expand the range of theater by bringing new, innovative and invigorating work to the underserved location on 59th Street between Park and Madison Avenues in Manhattan. Box Office Associate

Duties include, but are not limited to, in-person and telephone ticket sales, distributing tickets at will call, processing email ticket orders through Audience View, and providing exceptional customer service to theater Members and Subscribers, single ticket buyers and visiting theater companies.

A strong performing-arts background, cash-handling and customer service experience is required. Performing-arts box office experience is preferred, particularly with computerized ticketing systems and window sales. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, meticulous, aggressively punctual, even-tempered, kind, good-humored, familiar with PCs, Microsoft Office software and various web browsers, professional in appearance and clear in both spoken and written communication. Regular availability for weekday, weekend, and evening shifts.

Marketing Manager

59E59 Theaters seeks a Marketing Manager to join its dynamic marketing team at its vibrant midtown off-broadway theater complex. This position works closely with the Director of Marketing and will assist them in developing and execute organizational and production focused marketing strategies in support of their year-round program of theater, with a particular focus on digital.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Together with the Director of Marketing, create and execute marketing and advertising campaigns, including traditional media, digital, and promotions in support of more than 30 shows annually.
- Assist with budget preparation, tracking, forecasting and analysis.
- Manage the work flow and creation of all marketing collateral, including EBills, postcards, and season brochures.
- Work closely with the Director of Marketing to monitor sales and develop effective responses to sales patterns.
- Oversee digital strategies, including design, social media content, all web, SEO/SEM, email, Google Adwords, display advertising and paid social campaigns on Instagram and Facebook.
- Manage website.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2-3 years experience in marketing, advertising, or a related field. They must highly organized, a strong communicator, detail orientated, results driven, analytical and work well under pressure. Knowledge of ticketing systems and a reporting background preferred. Experience of excel is required, along with proficiency in MS Office, Mac, HTML, and social media platforms. A high comfort level working with Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable.

Marketing Intern

59E59 Theatersregular seeks Marketing Interns during college semesters and summer break. 59E59 is an Off Broadway theater complex with three spaces, presenting more than 36 productions each year from companies in New York, across the country, and around the world.

The intern will be given an opportunity for hands-on learning over the course of the semester. Upon successful completion of the internship, candidates should possess knowledge and practical, real-world skills on how to market Off Broadway theater in New York City.

The Marketing Intern will report to the Director of Marketing and work with the department staff of three to create and execute marketing strategies. Responsibilities will include:
-Participating in ad planning meetings
-Assisting with the planning and execution of multi-channel social media content
-Proofreading marketing collateral
-Researching marketing outreach opportunities
-Creating press packets
-Organizing press clippings for each show
-Participating in creating and facilitating a multi-channel marketing and communications strategy
-Other duties as assigned

Applicant should be a current undergraduate student with an interest in the performing arts or marketing. Previous office experience preferred. Knowledge of Outlook, Google Apps, and all major social media platforms required. Familiarity with Photoshop and basic HTML a plus.

We would like interns to commit to approximately 18-24 hours per week (start and end dates, and weekly schedule are flexible).

The internship is unpaid, but a travel stipend will be provided. 59E59 is able to shape the internship experience to ensure academic credit requirements are met. Interns will receive tickets to all 59E59 productions.

59E59 Theaters is a not-for-profit theatrical complex which owns and occupies the building at 59 East 59th Street in New York City. The building contains three performing spaces of 196 seats, 98 seats and a flexible black box space of 49-65 seats. The Theater opened in 2004 and is endowed by its parent The Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation. In accordance with its mission, the Theater curates the presentation of American and international theatrical works new to New York City produced by not-for-profit companies. The Theater presents about 36 plays per year, divided into 4 quarterly seasons. As an important part of its service, 59E59 Theaters provides all marketing and communications services to the theater companies that perform there.
