Diana Quick makes her New York stage debut in her own translation of Simone de Beauvoir's The Woman Destroyed. De Beauvoir knew a thing or two about women—and about being one—and her play distills all the humiliation and psychic agonies she suffered in her lifelong partnership with the unfaithful Jean-Paul Sartre. Diana Quick plays Murielle, alone in her flat on New Year's Eve, left with no self-esteem and mentally torturing herself. In a succession of revelatory outbursts she says what she really thinks with angst, anguish, self-pity, hatred, grief and a burning desire to survive, mercilessly exposing her two marriages, her two children, her two separations, and one death. A rip-roaring display of unbridled brilliance from one fo the world's great actresses.
