By: Jon Fosse
Directed by: Paul Takacs
Translated by: Simon Stephens
With: Louis Butelli and Christopher Tierney

From the company that brought you the critically acclaimed Tender Napalm by Philip Ridley, comes a new play by Jon Fosse.

The wind gathers, rising up suddenly. Two men on a fragile boat, a trip to sea - a few drinks, a bite to eat - when one of them decides to push on to the open ocean. Suddenly there they are: among the distant islands, the threatening fog and gathering swell of the sea, bound together on an odyssey into the unknown.

Producing Company

The Shop

THE SHOP presents new theatrical works that engage audiences viscerally, tangibly and immediately. We are a boutique theatrical enterprise, presenting big ideas in small spaces, allowing audiences to get “up close and personal” with the work. We believe in a spare aesthetic that strips away superfluous artifice, distilling the characters and their journeys to nuanced, yet unvarnished and intimate presentations. We produce works that demand live theatre presentation: compelling pieces that embody richly-drawn characters in extraordinary circumstances, voiced with muscular language that conjure unforgettable experiences.

Reviews

"Mr. Fosse terse, rhythmic script captures a gut-level anxiety about elemental questions of identity." - Ben Brantley, The New York Times

"Elemental and poetic! Deeply human." - Curtain Up

"Hypnotic and cryptically haunting." - The Guardian

"Christopher Tierney brings a powerful presence and a clear voice to his role. Louis Butelli is intellegent and warm giving an incredibly physical performance." - New York Theatre Review
